The United States has many safeguards that help protect the American people and American assets and interests in the United States and around the world. The Department of Defense (DOD) along with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are the two main agencies that have been put in charge with the task mentioned above. Under DOD and DHS falls the U.S. Armed forces, which they have a complex structure. Over the years, after many conflicts, improvements in aviation technology, and the need for more personnel that can be dedicated to aviation related tasks within the Armed Forces; congress decided to create the United States Air Force on 26 July 1947 (Air Force History).
