Recommended: The Work Of Department Of Homeland Security

The United States has many safeguards that help protect the American people and American assets and interests in the United States and around the world. The Department of Defense (DOD) along with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are the two main agencies that have been put in charge with the task mentioned above. Under DOD and DHS falls the U.S. Armed forces, which they have a complex structure. In order for the U.S. Armed Forces to be able to effectively protect the nation they have been divided into five different branches, these are the United States Army, the United States Marine Corps, the United States Navy, the United States Air Force, and the United States Coast Guard. Therefore, the colonies decided to create their own Navy fleet to defend themselves be able to counter attack the British’ Navy (Navy Timeline). The Navy’s primary mission is to protect and keep the peace at seas surrounding the United States and around the world, however the Navy is also capable of carrying out operations in land and air (U.S. Naval History and Roles). The main mission of the Air Force is to use air power to protect and fight against the enemies of the United States, however the mission of most airmen and airwomen within the Air Force is to ensure that all aviation sites and equipment are ready at all times to be used if needed to be.
