The Cold war had many different factors and other fighting in it. The war raged on for 40 years. It started after World war II. The United Nations became a group within countries. Europe was divided. Russia started into the route of communism. Communism then started to spread. America decided to contain the communism. This started a cold war between America and Russia. It was cold because there was no fighting. Instead of fighting they threatened each other in an arms race. They kept flaunting their weapons to each other threatening to use them.
Then came the space race. Russia made the first thing to go to space, a satellite named sputnik. America wanted to beat them in this race so they decided to fly a man to the moon. It took them awhile but they did it. They put a man in the moon in 1969 therefore beating the russians in the space race.
During the cold war there were many proxy wars. One of which was the vietnam war. The vietnam war was caused because a communist leader took over North Vietnam and America decided to help contain them there. America then drafted troops over there to help with the war. The US decided to stop helping the communist leader which they were trying to contain because they decided that China needs to sort out their own country. By 1949 the non-communist side of China left and went to Taiwan. In the 1950 the then communist China’s leader decided to help out his country by making the 5 year plan called the ‘great leap forward’, which was a way to help with starvation, homelessness, and more.
