Corruption. Evil. Slavery. Africa was full of this in the early 1900s due to European colonization/imperialism. But because of the European occupation, Africa became a breeding ground for slaves and imperialism. Imperialism is the rule by an emperor or official assigned via the ruling country. The Europeans in Africa implemented this type of government. The Europeans that came down essentially took the liberty of ruling over the African people through imperialism and according to the packet; it was the white man’s burden to civilize other non-white people. This means they thought they were right to forcefully invade and take over the colonies of Africa as well as rule them, essentially as dictators. On page 1 of the packet, there was a quote that states “Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered most that has made it possible for evil to triumph.” This quote signifies the corrupt leadership instated in these colonies and the system of so-called justice that does nothing to solve it. According to the packet, or more specifically a memoir by an African man, the slaves were bound by chains and punished if they did anything they were not supposed to. It also says that if they tried to escape, they would be whipped and starved for it. This reveals that the white man reigned supreme and had complete and utter dominance of the Africans. It also states in a letter in the packet that the white men, throughout a period, were taking away the rights given to them by the whites.
