Throughout the play Macbeth there has been a conflict with Macbeth’s actions. Conflicts including obstacles brought by the witches’ prophecy, internal conflict over murdering Duncan, and the assassination of Banquo. The witches’ prophecy affects Macbeth constantly because this was the start of several bad actions that Macbeth committed. The witches’ prophecy made Macbeth had an ambition that he never experienced before, and it was to be king. This ambition even led Macbeth to kill King Duncan in order to secure his place as king. Once Macbeth murdered King Duncan he started to feel guilty and regretted killing King Duncan. The witches claimed that Macbeth would be king and that Banquo’s children would be kings as well. These words later on throughout the play became true. The witches were like fortune-tellers, except Macbeth did not want to wait for the future to take care of the fact that he will become king. The witches had a huge impact on Macbeth’s decision to kill King Duncan. If it was not for the witches’ words, Macbeth would have never had the thought of either becoming king or killing the king. In the play it states, “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! / All hail, Macbeth, hail to thee, thane of Cawdor! / All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!” (1.3.51-53). This quote shows that the three witches claimed Macbeth as king. Macbeth’s reaction to the witches’ words was that he falls for the witches' manipulation even though he is confused. This also shows that Macbeth puts his ambition above everything else. The witches manipulated Macbeth, which led Macbeth into killing King Duncan, in order for him to become king. Conflicts that would have never started of it was not for the witches’ prophecy. Conflicts including, situations brought by the witches’ prophecy, internal conflict over murdering Duncan, and the assassination of Banquo. Macbeth’s actions and decisions would have consequences eventually. Macbeth should bear 100% of the responsibility for King Duncan’s death. No one forced Macbeth to kill King Duncan. Macbeth chose to kill King Duncan. Although the Witches and Lady Macbeth pressure Macbeth, none of them forced him to perform this action. Macbeth shows a two-faced character throughout the play that confuses what his true character really is. When Macbeth killed King Duncan he felt guilty and disapproved of doing it. However, when Macbeth ordered killing Banquo he felt no pain or guilt which is absurd. Macbeth is two-faced and he can not be trusted. Macbeth’s actions and decisions have revealed that he is false and his actions can not be excused or
