The Theme of Theodore Boone: The Scandal is some people have different opinions about a conflict. The theme occurs many times in the book, but the main time is when the teachers change the test scores. The town thinks they did it to get a bonus in their pay. They really did it because they wanted their kids to have a chance at succeeding. All the kids from that school are very underprivileged, so the teachers wanted to help them out. Also, April and Theo are really invested in this case. April thinks it is her responsibility to tell the police about the cheating. It is a big three-way mess with the responsibility for the cheating. I am going to explain the things these characters were thinking while the scandal was going on. When the teachers got in trouble, the police were thinking that the teachers did something wrong. That is only one side of the story. The teachers still believed that they were innocent. They were thinking that this is crazy how they were being put in jail, and so did Theo, April, and Mrs. Boone. When Mrs. Boone heard the news, “The police had arrested Geneva Hull and the other four teachers. There is no need for an actual lawyer there, so Theo gets to be a lawyer. It is important for Theo to practice around there because he wants to be a lawyer someday, so it is nice to get the practice. He also feels important in Animal Court. Like he is helping people. He helps these people try to keep their “pet” otter. He takes their case very seriously, like a real lawyer. He wants to do his best in court, so he can please his clients, “It wasn’t a good win, but it wasn’t a bad loss either.
