Becoming a professional school counselor, it can sometimes be difficult to turn theory into application and there are many personal components that go into selecting a theory or theories to use in practice. However, having a theoretical orientation can provide the counselor a framework from which to work from and assist the counselor in being intentional when working with a client, thus deciding on a theoretical orientation is an important part in becoming a professional school counselor (Halbur & Halbur, 2015).

At this point in time, this learner feels that she is more aimed towards humanistic and constructivist approaches. In addition, taking the selective theory sorter-revised, identified that the top theories included person-centered, Gestalt, constructivist approaches, such as solution-focused brief therapy, and existential (Halbur & Halbur, 2015).
