A force is something that pushes you. It can lead you to the right path, or it leads you astray. The forces in life change our perspective on many aspects of our life in different ways, which builds our character. That’s why, in ‘The Night Drive’, certain forces make characters act the way they are. Since a force is something that pushes you, it can be a positive thing, but it can also be considered a negative. An example of a negative force would be the death of a loved one, which is what Mr. Tabor had gone through. The detached voice beside her said, “There’s no motive for the man to kill that particular woman, rather than another. A jury wants to see a motive for a crime. Naturally, the snares are a lot. Not just because she was the wife of the proud Mr Tabor, but because she was the woman that was bludgeoned to death and burned in her car while driving through Colchester Road. Mrs Tabor had driven alone at night and allegedly went to pick someone up, only to end up dead. Driving through that same road, of course, she would be terrified. There is an unconscious fear in the back of her mind that she would end up dying the same way Mrs Tabor did: bludgeoned and scorched to death. But her force to drive through Colchester Road is when Mr. Tabor calls Madge to drive his niece, Eunice, presumably to drop her off home (we can infer that, since she has not been seen or heard of by the residents of the village before, and got driven here, she lives outside of the village). But, to avoid being killed, she is avid about not picking anybody up. It removes one of many chances of dying while driving through Colchester Road. The last example of a negative force is something that happens within you; something that happens internally. It is an uncontrollable feeling inside of you that could not help but to come out to everyone once in a while and play. Nonetheless, while it comes out to play to enjoy itself, it can destroy lives, taking that enjoyment and happiness away from
