Thomas Edison
Thomas Edison was not the first person to invent the lightbulb, he was just the first person that made it work. Thomas Edison lived a hard early life due to having to maintain a fulltime job at the age of 12. Though Thomas lived a hard early life, he had much success in his middle life due to the invention of the light bulb. Thomas then went on to live a very sad and lonely later life. To truly understand Thomas Edison, one must understand his early, middle, and later life.

Thomas Edison worked as a telegrapher around the United States and Canada (Graham 6). He then went on to build his own lab in West Orange, New Jersey where he spent many days and nights sleeping on a workbench and working on new inventions (Graham 11, 20). He later invented the first motion pictures in the 1890s (Graham 15). While he was sleeping in his workshop, he never shaved his beard or combed his hair (Graham 20). Edison’s first son was born on January 10, 1876 (Graham 31). Edison was hired as a telegrapher again in 1863 (Graham 34). He later got fired due to an explosion that caused during work (Graham 34). But while he still had his job, he enjoyed playing pranks on people (Graham 34). One of his most well known pranks was when he electrified the water dipper so when someone got a drink it shocked them (Graham 36). Edison got married on Christmas Day, 1871 (Graham 50). Edison’s wife later died from brain fever at the age of 29 (Graham 71). After Edison’s wife died his daughter never left his side (Graham 73).
