It emphasized on the unconscious mind and on childhood experiences on personality. He believed that there are several different components of personality and they are the ego, the id, and the superego. The ego moderates between the demands of the id. The superego relies on your ideals and morals. The id is reflected on the all of your needs and urges. Another theorist Erickson thought that personality developed through a lot of different stages and that specific problem came up at each level. Which he believed that as long as the person overcame the problems then the person would get through level.
Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow are psychologies more Humanist theorists. Humanist emphasize on the need of free will and the act of individual life situations. They believe that causes the development of personality. They believe that self-actualization is the major need for personal development and that is the reason that motivates behavior. They believed that it is yourself that determines your personality and therefore is the reason for your behavioral actions. I found that biological theories on how your genetics play a complete role into your personality is completely accurate. Think about it for sec, how many times has someone told you, “Hey, you act just like your mom sometimes?” . Just in that simple statement its pretty clear cut which theory is more correct. Even when it comes to behavioral theories on development of personality, genetics still come into perspective.
