Throughout, Tim Burton’s movies, you can see his techniques evolve and become what is known as Tim Burton’s style. Burton’s movies have become a popular style, and his movies always bring crowds to the theaters. His fame grew with the production of Edward Scissorhands, from then, his techniques only grew, developing into his own unique style that many try to imitate. Several of his most obvious and aggressive techniques are his use of lighting, music, and colors. I am using several examples from his movies, Edward Scissorhands, Big fish, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In this essay, I will be analyzing and discussing what techniques Tim Burton uses to create mood in his movies.

He uses ghastly, angelic, grim, and seraphic musics in his films. Just music doesn't create a mood, volume adjustments to fit the scene is imperative in any scene and movie. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the transition from the candy room with the chocolate waterfall to the chocolate river, instills mystery into what could possibly be in the factory at all. In Big fish, Edward Bloom, returns to spectre and finds the town in ruins. He decides to repair the town and when he finds the last building in the town he has to repair, it is an extremely dilapidated building that is owned by the little girl that took his shoes when he first came to town. The music during the interaction of these two characters creates still, a feeling of awe and confusion. It is an amazing use of non-diegetic sound during a movie. Any fight scene is lost without music to heighten the sensations. In Edward Scissorhands during the quarrel between Edward and Jim, it escalates to a fight, Edward ends up murdering Jim and pushes him out the window of the tower. This scene invokes fear and excitement, however, this scene would have meant nothing without music. The feelings would have been lost on us and this scene wouldn't have been as intense. This next technique is with the same principal in a way. The camera angles in a movie in most ways, go unnoticed, accordingly, it is a great example of one's style. Noticing a person's style by analyzing the series of camera angles a director uses is a arduous task that is extremely tough thing to do. In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the camera angles that are used when Willy Wonka is deep in thought and thinking back into his past about his childhood show his face and give a little insight to how Wonka feels about his past because you can view his face and a little bit about how he feels about his childhood, alike, in bigfish, to show how Edward feels about meeting the little girl again after all the years that have past, it slows and pauses on his face for a short while, in that time you can see how he feels about the girl and how he is confused and doesn't know what to say. In Edward scissorhands, when Pam first finds Edward in the castle, it zooms and switches between the two to see both reactions, it shows how pam is confused and is frightened as well as in awe about Edward, in contrast to Pam’s reaction, Edward simply doesn't know how to react as he was brought up in the
