To Kill a Mockingbird
In Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, there is a very specific set of events to help extend and explain the overall theme of the story. When novels are adapted into movie scripts lots of minor plot events happen to be pulled from the story and other events that seemed minor in a novel and seem much more crucial in a movie. A lot of the differences in scripts are because of two different writers point of views or the way they interpret the text. All of this coming out to explain why the most memorable scenes of the book are different from the ones of the movie. One thing from the novel that stuck out the most was when Scout or Jean Louise Finch was spending time with the ladies of Maycomb that her Aunt Alexandra wanted her to become affiliated with and they received the news of Tom Robinson getting shot Scout said “After all, if aunty could be a lady in a time like this, so could I” page 237. The reason this scene was so memorable was because it seemed to me it was Jean Louise’s moment when she realized that being a lady is not just dresses and gossip. Being a lady was being able to hold yourself together in a time like this and not letting a soul know how you felt in fear of being judged. I personally enjoyed this scene the most in both adaptations because of how true and real it was. While reading it you could feel the raw emotion that came from Tom robinson and how heartbroken he was and you could see that portrayed very well by the actor in the movie too. TOm robinson not being guilty which was well proven by Atticus Finch through out the trail, and still getting the guilty verdict was just all too real to things that took place in the courts then and sometimes can still happen in todays juries and
