The book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, is about a girl who was raped and is trying to get through the school year. Melinda has many struggles throughout the school year. The book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is about injustices in The Great Depression from the perspective of a child. In school there should be lessons that are learned during the time that is spent here. The most important lesson that should be learned is that injustice should be fought based on To Kill a Mockingbird and Speak. Scout. I couldn't go to church and worship God if I didn’t try to help this man” (Lee 109). This is an example of injustice because Tom was part of a group of people that were treated unfairly. All of the black people during this time were treated badly and didn't have many rights. Atticus isn’t just fighting for Tom, but also the whole black community. Some people during this time were scared to stand up for black people, but when Tom did it, he gave those people some courage to do it themselves. Later on in the story, Mr. Link Deas stands up to a white man that is harassing a black woman in the book. This behavior was sparked by Tom standing up for Tom. That was one example of how injustice is fought in To Kill a Mockingbird. Just as there are examples of injustice being fought in To Kill a Mockingbird, there are also examples in Speak. In the book Speak, there are many examples of injustice being fought. One example is when Melinda tells Heather she won’t help her with setting up a prom. Melinda says,” No, I haven’t decided on colors yet, That’s not what I mean, I mean no, I won’t help you” (Anderson
