Difference and Friendship
What does friendship mean? Jamal Wallace is a young and smart boy who meet William Forrester an old man. They become friends because Jamal sneaks into Forrester house. After Jamal leave his bag in Forrester house, Forrester writes on Jamal notebook and Jamal ask him to help about his writing. Although they have some similarities each other, they have differences in races, personalities, and characters. The first difference is their race. Jamal is a 16-year-old black student from a small city called the Bronx. He lives with his mother and brother Terrell in an apartment. He got a scholarship from a new school where he was the only black student. His writing skills were excellent, and he was a good basketball player. Mr. Crawford did not like him because he was challenging him. He could not believe a black boy from the Bronx does so good in writing. Jamal was a strong boy who don’t like to lose; he always like to win. Jamal like the environment, meeting with friends and that is how he became friend with Mr. Forrester. One day, he interrupts Mr. Crawford class while the professor was talking to another student. Every quote that the professor started, Jamal finished it and he was so mad that he asks Jamal to leave the class. There was a competition of writing, and Jamal used Forrester title; they asked him to write a letter of apology. He said, he will not do it because he did nothing wrong. Meanwhile, Forrester is a kind, calm person. He likes to drink. He teaches Jamal how to improve in writing and giving him some advices. For example, when the school ask Jamal to write the letter of apology, he tries to convince him to write the letter, do everything they told you and everything will be good. At the end, he helps Jamal get back with the principal by coming to the competition and read Jamal
