I predict that Tom Robinson will be let go and Bob Ewell will be convicted. Mayella was beat up on her right side and Bob Ewell was left handed. Tom could have easily been left handed too, but that was not the case. Tom’s left arm was twelve inches shorter than his right arm. There would be no way that Tom could beat up Mayella because he did not have full control of his left arm.
In both of theses stories there is some precious stuff going on. In to kill a mockingbird Tom Robinson was accused of rape that he did not do, but because he was black he had got accused of it. In the report of Emmett Till Till was killed because he had want to the south to visit his family but he was killed because he was black. Emmett Till was innocent but because he had no wetness no one would have ever believed him in his point of view.
Tom Robinson is innocent because there is a lack of solid evidence linking him to the rape of Mayella. During the trial, Mayella claims that she screamed the whole time Tom allegedly took advantage of her; however, when Atticus questions her, she is not able to come up with any probable answers to prove Atticus’ statements wrong. Atticus asks her, “‘Why didn’t the other children hear you?’. . . ‘Or didn’t you scream until you saw your father in the window? You didn’t scream until then, did you?’”, but Mayella always has no answer to his questions (Lee 250-251).
I would like to highlight Mayella’s inconsistent explanation of her experience during the crime. When giving her testimony, Mayella states, “No, I don’t recollect if he hit me. I mean, yes, I do, he hit me.” but then follows up with, “Yes, he hit – I just don’t remember – it all happened so quick!” Her statements are not direct answers that help her case.
Maycomb County and its people were affected greatly by the Tom Robinson case. Atticus was defending Tom Robinson against Mayella Ewell. Mayella had said that Tom had raped her. Some had different opinions than others. It was an unfair case that should not have ended the way it did.
To Kill a Mockingbird In To Kill a Mockingbird written by Harper Lee, Tom Robinson goes on trial. In this novel the townspeople, Atticus, and the children's views and outcomes of Tom Robinson’s trial are being presented. There is much racism and hatred of the blacks making the trial unfair for Tom to be seen as innocent through the jury’s eyes because he is a black man.
A man by the name of Tom Robinson is on trial for the rape of a girl by the name of Mayella Ewell. In this trial Tom can be considered innocent be the fact of his left arm is useless. “He [got] it caught in a cotton gin, caught it in Mr. Dolphus Raymond’s cotton gin when he was a boy… like to bleed to death… tore all the muscles loose from his bones-” (Lee 249). Tom is convicted of this crime against Mayella , which is a supposed beating, even though it is lead almost exclusively with the left hand, which Tom cannot use. Tom Robinson is a gentleman and also a very kind and generous man.
A Mockingbird is a powerful symbol of goodness. A mockingbird is a type of bird that mimics other types of birds songs and sings beautiful songs that are peaceful, the mockingbird is a peaceful animal that doesn't cause harm or trouble and is not to be harmed, because it is a sin to kill a mockingbird, thus killing a mockingbird is to destroy innocence. In the story To Kill a Mockingbird the two characters that are most related to being a mockingbird would be Tom Robinson and Boo Radley. Tom Robinson is a innocent negro accused of raping Mayella Ewell towards the end of the book, we don't see much of Tom until he is accused of rape. Tom was declared guilty and sentenced to jail, although the real problem about the case is that Tom Robinson
To Kill A Mockingbird In the critically acclaimed novel, “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, it is set in the Great Depression time and a time of extreme racism in the South; a Man named Tom Robinson is convicted of the rape of Mayella Ewell. With that to show, Tom Robinson is innocent because of certain evidence from the novel. In the first place, Tom is black. He would have helped a white woman with whatever she needed to because that’s what he did.
Even though the jury found Tom Robinson guilty of raping Mayella Ewell, in that matter Atticus Finch, lawyer defending Tom Robinson, said that Tom Robinson was not guilty because he only has one arm and there is no way that Tom Robinson was able to hurt her while Bob Ewell is perfectly fine and
First, Tom Robinson should have been found not guilty because he was right handed. Mayella the victim, was punched in the face on the night of the crime. On page 235, Mr. Heck Tate stated that Mayella had a black eye on her right eye
(P. 225). Mr. Ewell was left handed, and in this passage Mr.Ewell affirms that Mayella was beaten on the right side of the face. Since Mr.Ewell is left handed, he was asked to write his name during the trial, to prove that he was the one to beat Mayella.
Emily Callan Due Date: Tuesday, November 4th I am reading the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I am on page 281. In this journal I will be predicting and… I predict that Tom Robinson will be convicted of raping Mayella Ewell because of the racism and bias he is facing.
This is untrue because Reverend Sykes whispers to Jem and tells him "He got it caught in a cotton gin, caught it in Mr. Dolphus Raymond 's cotton gin when he was a boy . . like to bled to death . . tore all the muscles loose from his bones" (Lee 186). This is important because it says that Tom got his left hand caught in the gin and now it 's misshapen, this also says Mayella the one who accused Tom of raping her and using his left hand to hit her aggressively as she says so. It 's clear that if anyone in the court room tried to go against Tom Robinson and how he did rape Mayella, would be untrue due to all the muscles from his left arm torn apart from his hand.
In chapters 17-24 in To Kill A Mockingbird, Jem and Scout observe their father in court defending Tom Robinson (a black man) from the accusations of the Bob Ewell (a "low grade ' ' white man). Bob Ewell accuses Tom Robinson of sexually assaulting his daughter; Mayella Ewell. Before the fate of Tom Robinson is given in the possession of the jury, both lawyers have a final attempt at convincing the jury that Tom Robinson should/shouldn 't be prosecuted. Atticus starts off his closing remarks with the fact that he believes that the case should have never come to trial and that the case "”is as simple as black and white."
