I predict that Tom Robinson will be let go and Bob Ewell will be convicted. Mayella was beat up on her right side and Bob Ewell was left handed. Tom could have easily been left handed too, but that was not the case. Tom’s left arm was twelve inches shorter than his right arm. There would be no way that Tom could beat up Mayella because he did not have full control of his left arm.
In both of theses stories there is some precious stuff going on. In to kill a mockingbird Tom Robinson was accused of rape that he did not do, but because he was black he had got accused of it. In the report of Emmett Till Till was killed because he had want to the south to visit his family but he was killed because he was black. Emmett Till was innocent but because he had no wetness no one would have ever believed him in his point of view.
Fearing a mob outbreak at Maycomb county, attorney of the defendant, Atticus Finch stationed himself in front of Maycomb jail to protect Tom Robinson. Tom Robinson was under trial for raping, choking, and hitting Mayella Violet Ewell. Atticus Finch was before a crowd which had gathered about the jail. They were threatening until Dill and Atticus’s children came.
A Mockingbird is a powerful symbol of goodness. A mockingbird is a type of bird that mimics other types of birds songs and sings beautiful songs that are peaceful, the mockingbird is a peaceful animal that doesn't cause harm or trouble and is not to be harmed, because it is a sin to kill a mockingbird, thus killing a mockingbird is to destroy innocence. In the story To Kill a Mockingbird the two characters that are most related to being a mockingbird would be Tom Robinson and Boo Radley. Tom Robinson is a innocent negro accused of raping Mayella Ewell towards the end of the book, we don't see much of Tom until he is accused of rape. Tom was declared guilty and sentenced to jail, although the real problem about the case is that Tom Robinson
To Be A Mockingbird “Shoot all the bluejays you want, if you can hit em, but remember its a sin to kill a mockingbird”(Lee 119). This is showing that Atticus values Mockingbirds because of their innocence and it would be a sin because they cause no harm and only make good songs for people to enjoy. This connects to my thesis because Tom Robinson and Arthur Radley are both Mockingbirds. In the story To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Tom Robinson and Arthur Radley both symbolize the mockingbird because they both showed innocence.
At the end of Tom’s trial, Tom Robinson was pleaded guilty by the jury. Scout expected this, yet still felt disappointed by the outcome. Scout feels conflicted with her society. Scout knew that Tom Robinson would have been guilty the moment she noticed the jury not looking at Tom. She feels disappointed about the outcome but was able to later come into terms with it better then Jem.
To Kill A Mockingbird In the critically acclaimed novel, “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, it is set in the Great Depression time and a time of extreme racism in the South; a Man named Tom Robinson is convicted of the rape of Mayella Ewell. With that to show, Tom Robinson is innocent because of certain evidence from the novel. In the first place, Tom is black. He would have helped a white woman with whatever she needed to because that’s what he did.
During the trial of “To Kill a Mockingbird” it was obvious that Tom Robinson could not have beaten up Mayella Ewell on the side of her face and body considering he didn’t have a working left arm. He got it caught in a cotton gin as a child and tore the muscles from the bone. Some people defiantly could not have believed Mayella and Mr. Ewell’s side of the story, especially after seeing Tom and his arm. However, Tom was still found guilty rather than innocent and no one in the county seemed upset about the decision other than his family, Atticus, and Jem. Atticus says, “They’ve done it before and they did it tonight and they’ll do it again and when they do it- seems that only children weep” (Lee 213).
In the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the story is set in the 1900’s, Maycomb, Alabama. During this time there was racism in the south and segregation which separated the whites and blacks from everything. There was also the Great Depression, the whole country was poor and people living in the country had to trade and do other jobs for people to either pay them off or to buy something from them. The trial in this book is about Mayella and Bob Ewell, two white people, claiming and arguing that Tom Robinson, a black person, raped Mayella Ewell. This trial is really important because at that time in the south, white people took advantage of black people and their kindness and thought they would take that or shut up just because they were black.
Tom Robinson's character arc begins with being accused of a crime he did not commit. Tom Robinson was described as a kind and hard-working man who would often work for his white neighbor, Mayella Ewell, because he believed, as a black man, he should help her in whatever way he could. These acts of kindness were not only because of his race but also because he truly wanted to help his neighbor. Bob Ewell, the father of Mayella Ewell, accused Tom of rape even though there was no evidence to warrant his claims. After Bob Ewell accused Tom of rape, his life became much worse.
or anyone that does nothing to harm others. Tom Robinson does nothing to bring harm to anyone, but he is convicted of rape despite only showing generosity towards Mayella Ewell. These accusations are made by Bob Ewell and with each lie he makes it’s the same as shooting Tom like a mockingbird. Bob, Mayella’s father displays a high level of prejudice towards Tom, rejecting the idea that it could be possible that his daughter tried to kiss Tom. Reader’s know, Tom did not rape Mayella and he is too of a kind hearted man to directly blame Mayella for falsely accusing him.
The Mockingbird named Tom Robinson “That’s why it is a sin to kill a mockingbird.” (100) To Kill a Mockingbird is a novel that revolves around America’s discriminatory problems in the 1930s. Emily Callan Due Date: Tuesday, November 4th I am reading the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee and I am on page 281. In this journal I will be predicting and… I predict that Tom Robinson will be convicted of raping Mayella Ewell because of the racism and bias he is facing.
The book and movie “To Kill a Mockingbird”, shows how the racial discrimination was in Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930’s. However one of the main charaters Tom Robinson was accused of raping and beating up a white woman. Even with all the hate in the town against him and knowing he could possibly be killed, he stood up for his innocence. Tom Robinson is a man of courage, honesty, and a hard working man. Tom Robinson plays an important role in the novel because he represents the victim of black people during that period of time.
On the day of the trial Atticus makes a decision that was disdained by most. Tom Robinson is a black man being wrongly accused of raping Mayella Ewell, Tom was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Atticus Finch was appointed to the case, on the day of the trial after the jury left the room atticus finds out that the children have been listening the whole time. Scout and Jem protest to let them stay to hear the verdict. Atticus: “Well you’ve heard it all, so you might as well hear the rest” (Lee 207).
