Imagine living in a country under the iron fist of government where authority has no restraints, living in constant fear of your family, a life where thinking for yourself is a scarce luxury. For many people around the world and throughout history, this isn’t a nightmare; this is their reality. These people are ruled by totalitarian systems of government. The Oxford Dictionary defines totalitarianism as “relating to a system of government that is centralised and dictatorial and requires complete subservience to the state." In history, there have been numerous countries lead under such a rule. Some of the more famous being Hitler in Nazi Germany, and Stalin in the Soviet Union. However, even now, numerous countries are still under this governing style; North Korea, Syria and Iraq being some of the few. Under totalitarian systems of government, society splits into groups where the wealthy ascend into more wealth and power, and the less fortunate people descend even lower becoming the workforce behind the country. Class systems separate people by their means of living, recreation, relationships, lifestyles, luxuries and personal value in the eyes of others. Those from the lower classes are often treated unfairly and are susceptible to having their human rights stolen from them. For example, in Nazi Germany, Hitler slowly removed the rights of anyone who wasn’t an Aryan in particular Jews who over the years became the most inferior in Germany. Over time he removed their right to work in certain professions, forbade the ownership of businesses, removed voting rights and political representation and removed Jews from public schools. These defining acts sparked the movement of desecrating Jewish people and their belongings and began the movement of Jews into death camps and concentration
