America has slowly and continues to develop new technology, carnivore wiretap software, that is used to keep track of citizens as well as gather personal information on individual citizens regardless of them obtaining a criminal background or not. The government argues these are the new technologies being used to keep us safe from things such as terrorism. These technologies are an invasion of privacy. Individuals may argue they are keeping us safe, but is it worth losing your natural rights and privacy? Today's technologies are in our present day society are reflecting those used in Orwell's vision in 1984. People in the U.S should be willing to allow their calls and messages to be collected because most people have nothing to hide. In 1984, the made up dystopian society of Oceania has a totalitarian government system revolved around the being, Big Brother. Big Brother is considered an all powerful and all knowing being of total control who uses fear, monetization, and torture to get its citizens to believe whatever Big Brother says is truth. The camera system in Long Beach is not even close to showing any aspects of Big Brother because all it is meant to do is be there for when a crime takes place so the police department can look at a live feed of a current crime in progress or review footage of a recent crime to help find clues and suspects. Granted the idea that there are hundreds of cameras watching at any given time by one entity can be a little overwhelming, but who’s to say that isn’t already happening and we just don’t know about it? The cameras are already there and already watching everything that’s happening, so why not put them to a better use and let them help the police stop crimes and save
