Cole's Dad beat him so Cole beats up Peter at the beginning of the book, but he ended up helping him at the end.Cole's Dad, Garvey, and Peter affect Cole’s healing in negative or positive ways. Garvey helped with Cole's healing and forgiveness by sending him to the island. For instance, Garvey sent Cole to an island where he got rid of his anger. Before Cole went to the island he was always angry and couldn’t control his anger, but after Garvey sent him there and helped him while he was there he learned a lot of different ways to let go of his anger and how to forgive. For instance, The beatings caused Cole to need therapy while the trauma from the events gave him anger issues and negatively affected his mental state. Which affects how he interacts with other people making him more aggressive over little things. Cole suffered from traumatic events which most likely gave him PTSD. How Peter helped with Cole's healing and forgiveness. Peter was big by healing Cole. He does this by attacking Peter in the first chapter after this it teaches Cole that beating someone up will not solve all your problems. This shows that attacking Peter actually healed Cole by teaching him. Peter was also big on forgiveness. On page 131, Peter beats Cole up then falls on his knees and started crying.
