2.0 Introduction Chapter 2 focused on the theoretical study of townscape contribution towards the behaviour and activity pattern of users. This chapter helps in finding the relevant informations of several important subjects to be studied and highlighted for further understanding on the definition, principles and theory, as well as any facts related to the townscape effects towards users. It provides basic informations about the study in order to achieve the aim and objectives of the study before proceed to another stage of the study based on primary data and secondary data obtained. The term townscape itself was made by Gordon Cullen (1986). In his book, The Concise Townscape that was written in 1983, Cullen believed that it is considered townscape when groups of buildings are juxtaposed in a place. Townscape also affected the relationship between buildings and the space between the buildings as the concept of townscape itself features effects of the relationship between various elements that form urban fabric. On the other hands, Shuhana Shamsuddin (2011) mentioned Cullen (1986) in her book, that he emphasized the interplay of three elements, which are the faculty of sight, place and contents of the townscape have an impact on the emotional response as people can observe and experience the townscape. Therefore, the success of a town in acquiring its identity and sense of place determined by the important role of townscape that reflects the relationship between elements that compose the urban fabric. The concept of townscape can be defined as a part of a city that has a significance in setting a character of a city. Townscape is a result of a symbiotic interaction and cross fertilisation to a high degree of economic activities, architectural ideas, cultural and social diversities.
