As a recent Graduate of Brock university, the Challenges College and university graduates face while transitioning from school life to work life is a big reality. Due to these challenges, recent graduates find it hard to adapt into work life and many find it hard to make changes. Many of these challenges start occurring especially in the last year of college, when most are trying to get their first jobs. Many graduating students in their last year have to deal with handling final year projects as well as job-hunt, going for job interviews and dealing with issues related to what a final year student might encounter. An important thing final year students must know is, change is inevitable and one must know that time and adaptation work hand in hand. One must learn to readjust, for instance time management is crucial in the transition process. While in school, many students think they have time –management under their control, they formulate their timetables to their own convenience (many students skip the 8a.m classes and evening classes). As a student, unprofessionalism and lack of focus (handling in projects late or doing projects in a care-free attitude) might have resulted to bad grades but in the work force, there is no room for such. Unprofessionalism would lead to the individual getting laid off work, which is definitely a bad way to start a career. There are a lot of people who are also qualified for one’s job, therefore, showing lack of efficiency would only make more room to be replaced in the work force. Professionalism in the work force calls for independence as well as teamwork. One must be able to stand up to tasks and also be able to work cooperatively.
