Trayvon Martin was a 17-year-old boy that lived in Florida. He lived with his mother and often visited his father. While he had undergone some troubles, he overall was not a bad kid. Although he was very young and minded his own business, others did not. On February 26, 2012, the young boy’s life was taken away from him. The man who killed him was George Michael Zimmerman. He served as a neighborhood watch captain around the area where his dad lived. All he had was skittles and tea in his hand. Now tell me does that seem threatening to you? This case is what started all of the Black Lives Matter movements and things of that nature. For the simple fact that a white man killed a young black boy for no reason and Is not locked up is what is wrong with the world. Of course there are many factors to this as well. Many people though will say it is a racial thing. Which it just might be. The parents were not even notified after the death was accessed. His parents had to file a missing person’s report in order to find out that their son was now a corpse. This ignited many riots, marches, songs, acts social media, and more. Celebrities were a part of the movement, teens, adults, and just blacks all over the world. This was because everyone knew that that was not the right thing to do especially to a boy that was simply walking from the store, on a rainy day, with a bag of skittles in one hand and an Arizona tea in the other. With this being said. Many people felt the need to say something about what is really going on. One of those people is Lillian Bertram. Bertram is a notable and passionate poet. Trayvon martin got his life taken away for no reason at all. Zimmerman claimed that he was in a state of “fear” and had to defend himself. He believed that Trayvon was causing harm walking from the market. It says’ “With every step, rain steamed up from Singing Boy’s path and showered down upon him. Singing Boy pulled his cloak around him for shelter.” This resembles Zimmerman mistaking Trayvon for someone that may be a gang member or a person that has stolen something. This does not give him the right to kill an innocent teenager due to suspicion. Zimmerman received a verdict of not guilty on all accounts.
