World War I was declared one of the most devastating wars of all time because of the millions of lives that were lost and the destruction that occurred. World War I lasted for over four years and was very brutal, towards the end of the war the Allied powers and Germany signed a peace document called the Treaty of Versailles. This treaty’s purpose was to target Germany and squeeze them till they break for obliquely starting the war. The devastation the Germans experienced and the injustice of the Treaty of Versailles led them to become resentful. So did the Treaty of Versailles address the causes of the war or was it the fuel to the fire?
The Treaty of Versailles’ main purpose was to formally end the war which was signed by Germany and the Allied powers.

The causes of World War I were purely because of Militarism, Imperialism, Nationalism, and Industrialization. These causes were not addressed in the Treaty of Versailles to create peace but rather it only prevented Germany from utilizing them. After the war, the Allied powers believed that Germany did not deserve the money, power, and resources that they have. Article 232 of the Treaty of Versailles states, “The Allied and Associated Governments recognize that the resources of Germany are not adequate, after taking into account permanent diminutions of such resources…” The Allied powers gave no importance in the resources that Germany possesses because of this, they decided to take everything they have. Instead of solving the causes of World War I, the Allied powers used those causes against Germany so that they could break down completely, which in the future was not successful.
