Truman’s Decision President Truman was justified in his decision to drop the atomic bombs in Japan. Truman faced many pros and cons of his decision, however, the pros outweighed the cons. There were very few alternatives to the extreme, the casualties in the Pacific were growing and the rate the war it would save lives. Although, there were many lives lost Truman made the right decision for his country.
Prompt and Utter Destruction: Truman and the Use of Atomic Bombs Against Japan is a book by J. Samuel Walker. He writes about the decision that Truman had to make during World War Two. The Decision that Truman had to make was whether or not the United States should use atomic bombs against Japan. The argument was that if the atomic bombs were used, then Japan would be forced to surrender. “Truman could have decided against it.
During harry S. Truman's presidency he was faced with one of the most world altering decisions in the war against japan. The use of atomic weapons would set an example of the united states of america’s military strength, power and knowledge of a very destructive technology. It was necessary for president Truman to drop the atomic bomb on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki for these reasons. American soilders were tired from the four years of fighting and a surrender from Japan was not in sight.. In (Doc L) it says the bomb saved more lives than killed people in the end, President Truman needed to retaliate for their attack on Pearl Harbor and the bomb would just end the war more quicker.
The Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki Harry S. Truman’s decision to drop the atomic bomb is one of the biggest and deadliest controversial turning points in history. America’s president, Truman, decided that on August 6, 1945, the atomic bomb would be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end World War II. President Truman’s choice to drop the bomb on Japan was considered one of the most debatable turning points. The settlement to drop this bomb was a wrong decision because this bomb killed more than 70,000 innocent people with 10,000’s dying later. Also, bombing a country that was going to surrender in a few months would not be necessary, and last but not least, the atomic bomb could give ideas for the world to start nuclear warfare.
President Harry Truman was justified in dropping the atomic bomb since it saved millions of American lives by ending the war as soon as possible, and established the United States as the greatest country in the world. With the bomb, America could “attack those that have hurt [America]” and save many American lives (Truman, Doc A). As part as revenge for Pearl Harbor, America was able to redeem itself against Japan with this bomb. It would make a statement to the world and force an unconditional surrender from Japan, as fast as possible. That would end the war and potentially save millions of young American soldiers.
Dropping a nuke on a country can cause lots of difficulty. The Americans dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima was the most controversial topics in American history. Truman was the active president who made the final decision for this act. Many people believe that Truman made the correct decision while others are in complete disagreement with the decision. President Truman made the correct choice in dropping the atomic bomb because it showed the United States had power, it helped end the war quickly, and saved many lives.
So, Truman made the difficult but necessary decision to drop the first atomic bombs. The mass destruction caused the Japanese to realize that they had already lost the war, and they needed to give up. All in all, the action taken by President Harry S. Truman was the right decision because it ended the war and saved American soldiers’
The decision to drop the atomic bomb on Japan is a decision that has been debated since the bomb fell. While Truman may have made the decision because he felt it was “ethical,” the actual amount of ethics in the decision has been up for debate. The atomic bomb had been in design before Truman stepped up to president when Franklin D. Roosevelt died of a cerebral hemorrhage in April of 1945. The atomic bomb had actually been in development since Albert Einstein warned the United States that Germany was trying to develop an atomic bomb of its own in 1939.
Truman and the Atomic Bomb Throughout history there have usually always been more than two sides to each event that has happened. After events occur, the stories of how and why it happened can get easily switched up and twisted. People may also question why a particular Historic figure decided to do an act that they did, and if it was the right thing to do. That is exactly what has happened with the dropping of the first atomic bomb, lead by President Harry Truman.
In the twentieth century, the United States dropped two atomic bombs, which were the most powerful weapons at that time, on Japan. It happened on August 6 and August 9, 1945. The atomic bombs killed 226,000 Japanese and ended the war. However, America should not have dropped the atomic bombs for two reasons. First, it was not necessary to drop the bomb to win the war militarily or to get the Japanese to surrender.
At the Supreme War Council the Emperor of Japan agreed to the surrender of Japan. The statement by the council read: “The Japanese Government is ready to accept the terms enumerated in the tripartite joint declaration which was issued on the 26th of last month, with the understanding that the said declaration does not compromise any demand which prejudice the status of the Emperor under national laws.” As a result, the Second World War was over. If it wasn’t for the use of the atomic bombs, there is a chance that the war could have continued on because the Japanese were not willing to give up. Also, thousands if not millions more lives could have been lost.
However, the Japanese were committed to fight to the bitter end of the war and see it all the way through, regardless of the fact that the United States demanded unconditional surrender from the small country of islands. This further emphasizes that since the Japanese were not simply going to give up, Truman came to the conclusion that in order to save millions of lives, he had to take thousands. President Truman decided to drop the atomic bomb on Japan to warn the world about the new found power of the United States, force an unconditional surrender of the Japanese, and save millions of lives. With the controversy over whether or not Truman should have dropped the bomb, some consider the decision irrational and unnecessary.
Greek myths are a very valuable resource to help modern society better understand the ancient Greek world. They provide a source of entertainment as well as cultural education. There are many ways that scholars and students are able to think about myths, but one useful way to think about them is through the four functions of a myth: mystical, cosmological, sociological, and pedagogical. A myth that is a good example of these four functions is the ancient story of Prometheus and Pandora. Each function of a myth is different and attempts to explain something unique about the world or society we live in.
President Harry Truman gave an executive order in 1945 to drop to atomic bombs in popular downtown cities in Japan. With the guidance of many scientists and political leaders President Truman made the extremely tough decision to drop the bombs. After listening to arguments from both sides President Truman came to the conclusion that dropping bombs would be the best thing to do for this war. It would also show that the United States had an extreme military power. Many American politicians were for the idea of dropping the bomb, because they believed that it was the only way to end the war and get Japan to surrender.
At the time, many opposed the usage of the bomb to be dropped such as the U.S. Generals MacArthur and Eisenhower, but as history shows, the former President Harry S. Truman didn't seem to listen, he still decided to call the order of dropping the bomb. The reason President Harry S. Truman dropped the two bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was because since Truman was feeling discouraged by the Japanese response to the Potsdam Conference’s demand for unconditional surrender, he had decided to utilize the Atomic Bomb to possible bring an end to the war. It was also to prevent what he predicted would be a much larger amount of death (this were only if the United States were to invade the Japanese mainland by land). When it came time for the actual bomb that hit Hiroshima, this bombing didn't get the Japanese to surrender. That when they decided to bomb Nagasaki next but the Japanese didn't immediately surrender.
