Russia, as well as its neighboring countries cover a vast amount of area and stretch across two continents. Due to this it is has one of the most unique and diverse histories as well as environments. Most people know this area was known as Union of Soviet Socialist Republics or more commonly The Soviet Union. The Soviet Union lasted from 1922 until 1991 where one of its most well known aspects was its communism based economy. While it is very complicated and can be polarizing to debate whether this was a good thing for the county it is worth noting that the shift towards a communist society as well as the shift to being a more industrial and modern society left a lasting impact on the area’s rich and diverse environment. It also has a vast range of climates such as Tundras and Deserts and everything in between. This area might be known for their long harsh winters, but areas along The Black and Caspian sea have blistering hot summers as well. This large difference leads to a diverse set of natural flora each uniquely adapted to survive in these unique climates. While there is an extreme amount of diversity the climates of this area can be divided up into four main categories, Tundra, Forest, Grassland, and Desert. The Tundra is in the northern most part of the area and much of the soil is in a permafrost forbidden all but the most extreme plants to grow. Next is the Forest which is where the Taiga is located, while this area is not as harsh as the Tundra, it is still rather cold so most of the trees are evergreens or conifers(such as pine trees). Even more South are the Temperamental Grasslands also known as the Steppe which is more found in Kazakhstan and Ukraine. It is home to some very fertile land and most of the grain agriculture. Finally is the desert which covers Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Like the Tundra this extreme has very few plants.
