Tupac Amaru Shakur was born June 16, 1971 in East Harlem, New York City. His birth name was Lesane Parish Crooks and his stage names were Tupac, 2Pac and Makaveli. He had an intense childhood, seeing as most of his family were criminals. His parents were named Afeni Shakur and Billy Garland. Only a month after Shakur was born, his mother was declared innocent of over 150 charges from the Panther 21 trial. She wasn’t the only one in Tupac’s family who was declared a criminal, his stepfather, Mutulu Shakur, was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List for many years.
