Tupac Shakur is an interesting human being, even though his life was cut short by gun violence, his legacy will always live on. The topic of this extended essay is of one man who had a talent powerful enough to change and influence others’ lives, I will prove this with his rap lyrics and knowledgeable resources. This research brings interest to me because music is very important to me, I listen to it every day and Tupac had a major impact towards the music society by creating a lot of flows and speaking great knowledge into his lyrics, I am also interested because when I was younger I heard a lot of his music and enjoyed it, his story is interesting and I want to learn more about it. Tupac was born unto parents that were a part of the Black Panther group, his mother changed his name to Tupac Amaru Shakur when he was one year old. His parents encouraged him to stand up for his rights and to speak his mind; Tupac speaking his mind led him to live up to his name “Tupac Amaru”, his name meant “Shining Serpent” (Tupac Shakur Biography). Tupac’s music, his personality towards other individuals, and the way he dressed are reasons he shined as much as he did. The word serpent is an old mythological word which represents him becoming legendary. Tupac was born in New York City, however, he moved to Baltimore because of family situations. It seemed that this was the place for him, he stood out in school for being very intelligent. However, he had to move again to Oakland, California, “this is where he started to be more involved with street activities.” (encyclopedia) Even though it does not sound like the right thing to do, he did it to help his family and it eventually paid off because it helped him with rap lyrics which is the reason most people know of him today. Him moving to California is a reason he represented the West Coast so hard before his death. He was from the East Coast and since he didn’t want to deal with that side anymore this caused controversy and for some of society to split up and a lot of rappers to be referred to as an East Coast or West Coast
