Yeezus, Pablo, Mr. West, the Louis Vuitton Don, all of these aliases describe the hip hop mogul known as Kanye West. Controversies aside, it cannot be emphasized enough that Kanye West has carved his way into the face of the representation of hip hop and rap today. Born in South Side Chicago and raised primarily by his mother, Donda, Kanye west has had a relatively stable upbringing despite the difficulties he encountered in his neighborhood. Although music continuously held a significant role in his life, it wasn’t until he made the decision to drop out of college in order to pursue music that he made his first steps as an artist. With his debut album “College Dropout” essentially being an earthquake that broke the mold of the typical projections of hip hop, Kanye West has had a series of successful albums that continued development both his skills and messages he contrives as an artist. In this essay I intend to focus on the song “Heard Em Say” from his Late Registration album as I believe that the lyrics and era of this song is an excellent depiction of what Kanye West truly is as an artist. …show more content…

Now with the resources he has acquired from his debut album, at this moment in his life, Kanye West was able to dish out music that he truly believed represent what values he believes in addition to his direction as an artist with little to no obstruction. ”Heard Em Say” is a song essentially themed around the promises of life itself. No matter what anyone promises you it is never truly certain for what the future holds for better or worst. To Kanye the interpretation of this message focuses on the aspects of race, government, relationships, and hopes
