Viola’s disguise, the trick on Malvolio, and Olivia being unaware enhances the events in Twelfth Night. Stereotypes play a significant role in this play. Viola dresses up as a named “Cesario” to work for Duke Orsino and earn income because of the views of women. She causes confusion due to no one knowing who she is, and has to hide her feelings from others. An act that happens during the play is when Duke Orsino asks for Cesario to pursue and confess his love for Olivia for him, Viola is upset about it because she wants to marry Duke Orsino, and when she goes and pursues Olivia for him, Olivia ends up falling for her. Sebastian wonders why there is a girl who is instantly in love with him does not question it and goes along with everything. When Olivia finds out that she marries the wrong man when she see’s two of the same people, she is happy that there is two of them because she can get two men to love her. Previously to finding out whom she marries, Olivia is desperate for Cesario who keeps rejecting her, she questions herself and makes herself seem desperate because she believes she is so in life with him. When Sebastian shows up who goes with everything that she say’s, she is happy. Olivia does not know that Cesario is a girl, and she marries the wrong man until they stand next to each other, and the truth comes out.
