US Energy Resources Vs Non Renewable Resources

From cars that run on gas to the electricity that power homes, fossil fuels is a major source in which energy is produced from. Non-renewable resources are being utilized for the energy it produces. However, the earth happens to only have a limited amount of these fossil fuels, much of which the U.S. uses. Because the U.S. is one of the top consumers of non-renewable resources as energy, the U.S. should switch to renewable resources and conserve more since non-renewable resources depleting is the greatest ecological and environmental problem facing the world today. As mentioned before, the earth has a finite amount of resources. Since non-renewable resources are being used much quicker than they are being replaced, this emphasizes the limited …show more content…

Numerous energy sources come from non-renewable resources. More than other, the U.S. is dependant on energy fossil fuels produce. The National Academies of Sciences states that “the U.S. gets 84% of its total energy from oil, coal, and natural gas” (National Academies of Science 1). A sizeable amount of the U.S.’s energy comes from fossil fuels. This energy is then used to heat homes, fuel vehicles, provide electricity, and more. Without fossil fuels, a large percentage of where the U.S. retrieves their energy from would be non-existent.
Not only does the depletion of fossil fuels affect the standards of living today, it also affects the economy. The growth of the economy has greatly depended on fossil fuels. For example, many factories are powered by fossil fuels. In the future when there will be a scarcity of fossil fuels, the prices will rocket and “the supply will fall and the demand will rise” (Economics Help 1). The depletion of non-renewable resources will disrupt the growth of the …show more content…

In the mean time there are many solutions in which to counteract this situation. One of the solutions to the problem is already being used. This solution is to switch to more renewable resources such as windmills or solar energy. The University of Wyoming states that renewable resources are “regenerable and are sustained indefinitely” (University of Wyoming 1). Having renewable resources means it can be replaced naturally and be used again, solving the need for an energy source. However, switching to these means of resources costs a lot of money. In the end, there will be a need to switch anyways, so it is an investment that will help in the long
