The Worth of a Multi-Disciplinary Education Becoming involved as a pupil of the MDS program was, in so many ways, an attestation to my ever-growing desire to persevere in my education and remain motivated in my vision of one day becoming a teacher at the secondary level. I was convinced and in low spirits that after talking with the elementary and secondary education Tupelo program director, my dream of being a faculty member of academia was indefinitely lost to the void of broken and lost aspirations and admirations. However, discovering the mission statement and credo of the MDS department imbued me with renewed strength and courage. I remember fondly, in the mildly chilly weather of August 2022, reading over its pithy description in the university’s listed catalogs of each discipline offered to the learners of the college and experiencing this thrust of resiliency and unwavering determination that is clearly embedded in the foundation of this nascent project and extended to students like me, who were in a distressing quandary, where options for still achieving success were becoming unclear and unreachable. …show more content…
With this in mind, the invaluable message I hope to convey to my students is that educational options like the MDS degree may, at a precursory glance, appear to be an indirect and secondary track to earning their post-secondary accreditations. However, irrespectively, it is education vehicles such as this program that make college accessible to all
