I am applying to the Northern Ontario School of Medicine because I want to pursue a career in medicine wherein I use my position as a healthcare leader to advocate for marginalized and underrepresented communities locally and globally. I think that the Northern Ontario School of Medicine curriculum does a great to encourage student involvement in underrepresented communities in the healthcare field. Helping marginalized communities is very important to me morally, and because of my background. My grandparents fled our home country when war broke out. They left behind everything they knew, and had to start a new life enduring unimaginable difficulty.
My experiences and aspirations have led to my decision to apply to VCOM. I want to pursue a career in medicine, but it was only after speaking to an internal medicine physician did I learn about and seriously consider osteopathic medicine. Not only is the approach taken by osteopathic medicine congruent with my own values, but osteopathic medicine provides a new window of opportunity to consider when pursuing a career in medicine. All of the osteopathic medical schools I have applied to are in the Southeastern United States, including VCOM. For my entire life I have lived in the southeastern United States, born and raised in the state of Florida.
Personal Statement Last summer I had the opportunity of participating in the U54 Sumer Research Program and it was an incredible experience, because it helped me in my professional development and discerns my future carrier goals. I want to return to MD Anderson Cancer Center, because it counts with a variety of physician scientists and physicians that integrate their clinical work with innovating research and this will improve my development as a future physician and researcher. Being able to do research in my area of interest and having the experience of a clinical rotation in pediatric oncology help me diced that I want to become an MD. My actual professional goal is to be a pediatric physician specialized in oncology, orthopedic surgery
The curriculum followed in your program is intriguing, as it allows various clinical clerkships, sub-internships, and generous opportunities for electives, out-of state and global experiences. I am particularly interested in the clinical and global opportunities that your school offers. Sanford School of Medicine’s Scholarship Pathways Program is an invaluable program that provides students an avenue for gaining knowledge and research experience outside of the classroom. I really enjoyed learning more about the program during my interview with Dr. Zeigler. The Frontier and Rural Medicine program available to your students is a unique opportunity, offering insight and experiences in the full spectrum of rural medicine.
There are many core principles encompassed by the mission and values of Pacific University's Physician Assistant Studies program that I know will make Pacific University a great match for me. Ensuring high quality care for patients, valuing diversity, and lifelong learning of evidence based medicine are concepts that should be at the core of healthcare. Also important to me is the need to help underserved populations. Currently working as a medical assistant at a primary care physicians office in Hilo, Hawaii I work with many individuals from underserved communities of the island and I see the need for greater healthcare access in these areas, and I am now committed to continuing to help the underserved as I further my career.
Morehouse School of Medicine prides itself on improving the health and well being of people of color and those in underserved populations, which I believe is congruent with my aspirations. As a teen, I spent my first two years of high school living in Montego Bay, Jamaica. My experience as an underserved minority living in the Caribbean allowed me a direct view of the health care disparities in an underserved population and gave me the unique perspective into the needs of this cohort. After that time, I went on to attend an inner-city high school plagued by violence and drug abuse. During my senior year alone, I lost three of my classmates to gun violence.
I am most drawn to Georgetown University School of Medicine because of its ideal of cura personalis. Through my volunteering with patients from underserved areas, I have seen that a person’s well being depends on their mental, social, as well as their physical health. I believe treating patients involves an individualized approach that focuses on their entire well being. At GUSOM I would be able to form my medical foundation with students and faculty who share this belief. I have loved doing research in college and would like to continue pursuing research in medical school.
My academic goals after I graduated from UC Irvine is to achieve a higher education beyond a Bachelor of Science in Public Health Sciences. I have set going to dental school as a primary goal after graduating. My goal is to eventually obtain a D.D.S (Doctor of Dentist Surgery) degree. Working towards a specialty is an interest that I am very curious in pursuing; however, as of now becoming a general dentist is my main goal. What factor(s) made you interested in studying in the Biological/Biomedical School:
The Morehouse College of Medicine is my top choice of medical school as its mission and vision both perfectly align with my personal goals and values. Given my goal to serve underserved communities, I am more than willing to practice medicine in underserved urban and rural areas to achieve my goal in life and promote the health among the most underserved and health-needy members of the communities especially the minorities. In addition, with the shortage of primary care physicians in the country especially in underserved areas, Morehouse is an ideal place for me to achieve my goals of serving these communities. I am also convinced that Morehouse, one of the top institutions in educating primary care physicians, will equip me with skills and
• Please discuss your personal and professional reasons for applying to the program. (250 words or less) * Growing up, I saw my father come home after a long day of working in the fields with sweat on his face, and weaknesses in his bones. The worst days were the ones where he would feel sharp excruciating pain in his knees, and there was nothing he could do about it, other than to endure it. Although I was little, it was in that moment that I knew what I wanted to do in my life. Seeing my parents unable to have or afford healthcare inspired me to pursue a career in medicine, at a young age, I immediately started planning on opening my own hospital and offering health care for those who cannot afford it.

I would like to express my utmost gratitude for scholarship support at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine. The funds allotted will greatly help me toward achieving my goal of becoming a physician. I am very involved in the TTUHSC SOM community along with my coursework. As a member of the student government, I am one of two Educational Policy Committee Representatives for my class. I help bring pertinent information about educational policy changes to our class and participate in post-course reviews to improve courses for future classes.
I should be considered for the Kaiser Permanente Health Care Scholarship because I have proved and accomplished more than what I thought I would be capable of in my education, I am passionate for the health industry, and I financially need to be to succeed. I will continue my education by pursuing my goal to become a Registered Nurse. I first considered Registered Nursing when I joined the Health Academy and realized how passionate I was to help others. Throughout my years in the Health Academy, my passion grew drastically. My summer of 2015 was dedicated to two internships; one being a Medical Assistant (200 hours) and another as a Physical Therapy Aide (80 hours).
Clinical medicine and science are inherently inseparable entities. Scientific advances and discoveries will perpetually influence any career in the medical profession. This was an idea I learned early on during my undergraduate education. However, my own interest in science spans further than using it as a means to an end. The process of developing theories and conducting experiments enthralls me.
Why did you decide to become a physician and how do you plan to use your time as an undergraduate student to reach your goal? *
