After the Ottoman Turks gained control of the Middle East, trade with Asia became difficult for Europeans across land. Many European explorers began searching for sea routes to Asia to renew trade. When explorers found the Americas, they had their mind set on gold to cope with the deteriorating European economy, but upon arrival and the realization gold was minimal, explorers enslaved many Natives and put them to work to produce another metal abundant in the area - silver. There were various topics covered throughout Chapter 16 of Patterns of World History: Volume One: to 1600, which focused on the European expansion as well as the Ottoman Habsburg conflicts. First, apocalyptic beliefs were spreading across Europe and began to inspire Europeans to explore and conquer the non Christian world. Second, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella enacted various political and religious reforms during their reign in Spain. Lastly, conflicts between Christians and Muslims in Eastern Europe was beginning to boil over into armed conflicts and conquest. According to the Michael Kolkind in the essay History 489 at Berkeley the conflict over people’s park took place. According to the author it was a small space took by the local activist from the university of Berkley which failed to improve it after “demolish some houses”(5). According to the author they created a space that would bring more people to join their causes. The author describes this action the “beginning of the end of the student movement”. For the extremist activists it was a military battle against the citizen that they were supposed to defend.
Europe was able to conquer and explore the rest of the world, an not anyone else not because of a superior economic status, but because of of its geographic location and because of its political strategies. In early history, Europe was the easiest place to thrive as a community because of s superior geographic location which gives it many advantages. Europe was economically superior to some places, but others such of China were as good, or if not than even better than Europe. The location of Europe shaped its political ideas which in turn motivated it to conquer the world. An additional document showing the crops grown in America and how efficient they are could be useful to prove Europe's superior geographic luck.
Religion, Riches, and Research Asia is often thought of being the most powerful country of the world. Hundreds of people have theories of Asia eventually becoming a powerhouse and dominating over the rest of the world. What has made Asia so powerful though? Stewart Gordon’s nonfiction book, When Asia Was the World, explores the time when Asia was truly the world and what made it that way through a series of stories. While Gordon’s book seems to be about travel shaping the Asian world, it is actually about the impact of religion on everyday life and culture in Asia.
There are many similarities and differences incorporated in West Africa’s and Southeast Asia’s patterns of interaction with Eurasian trade routes. In comparison, both used the silk road as a method of trade and commercial interaction, which let to both continents being able to assimilate the factors of gaining new resources and customs; second they both took advantage of the use of water for travel and this led through many Eurasian routes in order for them to culturally diffuse. However, Southeast Asian’s from the interaction of the Eurasian routes, was mainly or religious purposes; meanwhile Africa used the routes for profit through slave trade. The role of trading and commercial selling was a big deal in the interaction aspect of the Eurasian trade routes. And one main similarity between Southeast Asia and West Africa is the method of gaining new resources from either direction of the trade routes.
In the 16th century, European continue to arrive in Africa. Castle was built along the coast of West Africa by seven European nations. The Europeans discovered the wealth in Africa such as plantation and mining. To achieve their goals and to maximize their profits, the Europeans used slave labor. They were unable to use slave labor in Europe so therefore they turned to Africa.
There are multiple examples of major changes in Africa that I could talk about for this exam. But being that I only need a few pages, I will focus on, for this exam, rise and end of the Malinke Empire and Songhay, the religious influences throughout Ethiopia, trading towns in the east of Africa, and most of the Iron Age societies. The examples of change will display how towns and kingdoms would come and go, the people settling there, or development of new productions and technology. I will then explain if the examples were of benefit or not to Africa’s continents for years to come.
The best form of knowledge is one that is relevant in all aspects of life. History is important not only because it offers insight on how life was in the past, but also allows us to better understand current situations. Since a young age, I found myself longing to be informed about the world around me. Thankfully, this urge was settled by local news broadcasts. Whether this interest developed due to the lack of cable television in my household or an actual interest, the news broadcast became “must-see” programming for me.
Illness in women has always been a great mystery. When illness is studied, it is studied in men. With male symptoms, male bodies, and male drugs to fix the problem. The medical field has done very little to explore the ways that various illnesses both mental and physical effect women. They often do not know how to treat these illnesses when they do show up in women.
Unit 9: Women and Health impacted greatly on my own understanding of health and well-being in a positive way, opening my eyes to the wide scope of mind and body that health actually represents. For myself, a person with chronic illness I have always felt as if people considered my illness as an easy excuse or reason not to participate fully in society, and while my body doesn’t always cooperate my mind has always been functioning at capacity and as such I consider myself to be a strong and healthy contributor to my community.
The women right movements that have been coming up are based on the standards and encounters of different endeavors to elevate social equity and to enhance the human condition. These endeavors are known as reforms. Women right movements are among the main rights movement that were developed in the early times. The individual and authentic relationships that met up, and often split separated the movements for women’s rights that existed since 1877, have advanced over the ensuing century.
