Catalyst Facilitation Scenario • A local group you work with has identified food deserts in the county. In one of these areas, a local faith organization is a community hub for many residents. A few members would like to set up a farm stand on Wednesday nights to improve access to fresh foods. They have contacted you for assistance in connecting with farmers and ideas for educating people in the area about the importance of healthy eating and how to prepare fresh foods.
In the past I was trusted with taskes that were of high responsibility. I started out as a expendible piece at Ebenezer Baptist Church I was very active and I was able to keep up with many tasks I was given. At times I was given multiple tasks that require both physical and mental strength and I was able to do both very well. That also helped me when i worked in Friedwald Center where multitasking was a must at that job I had as a
Although most of my involvement has centered around politics, where I have been an active volunteer in the current election cycle, my service also extends to the homeless community in the Quad Cities. After recognizing the extent of homelessness in Davenport, my friend decided to start a nonprofit 5K to benefit a local shelter and I immediately joined in the venture. By working with the shelter rather than independently, we were able to avoid the faults set forth in To Hell With Good Intentions. Our good intentions have donated over $10,000 to King’s Harvest Ministries, who uses funds in a way that raises the standard of living for the local homeless
Detroit Experience Paper Being immersed into the inner city is something not only urban ministry majors should experience, but all Christ followers. The many things we experienced during the weekend taught me a lot and helped further prepare me for my own ministry in an urban setting. Experiences such as the charter school, Beast of the Beats, CDC, talking to a homosexual pastor, and Tabernacle Revival Church made me feel a wide mix of emotions. Many times during the trip I felt so confirmed that this is I am suppose to focus my work for the Lord. On the contrary, there were times I wondered what I am getting myself into.
My dad works as a full-time pastor in a house church in Beijing. My family have been deeply involved in this church for more than twelve years. I remember my brother and I would spend the whole day every Sunday at church, we would help to do the cleaning, organizing before and after the service. We were familiar with every place in the church, and people would always come to us when they were looking for something. My parents also like to host different fellowship groups in our house, therefore we got to know some people really well.
Blessed is a Full Plate In the article, Blessed is a Full Plate, Anna Quindlen explains the importance of the Holy Apostles Church, in New York. Quindlen supports her claim by telling us that the church has never missed a weekday to feed the homeless. She writes this to show what the Holy Apostle church does for the hungry, the struggles the church faces, so that we will be inspired to follow in the volunteers at the Holy Apostles footsteps.
Being a fast food worker for the past year and a half, I have been exposed to numerous different types of people, and most of them are not the same race as me. When I first started to get to know them, even though at times there was difficulty communicating, we were able to make it work and build stronger relationships. One of my favorite managers was Rose, a Hispanic woman who had been so kind to me. She was an example of someone who was able to teach me things about herself I could have stereotyped and not taken the time to learn anything about her as an individual. Growing up in Joliet, Illinois has always given me the opportunity to experience race relations on a regular basis, just due to the diversity of the city that I live in.
I observed a Mauston City Council meeting on September 8th at the City Hall. The meeting lasted for a total of 38 minutes, 13 minutes of that time was spent in closed session. The members in attendance were Mayor Brian McGuire and council members Dennis Nielsen, Dennis Emery, Francis McCoy, Steve Leavitt, Rick Noe, Floyd Babcock, and Leslie Householder. Joining them were Acting Police Chief Mike Zilisch, City Administrator Nathan Thiel, Public Works Director Rob Nelson, and Administrative Assistant Diane Kropiwka. Many high school students were there to observe the meeting.
A city council meeting is a regular meeting where the Mayor of a city, District Attorney, and other important leaders of the community, along with members the general public meet to discuss important issues. They can bring up their concerns or questions of a specific topic, they can bring awareness to an issue, while making proposals and ordinances to better the community in which they live. And this is exactly what took place in Redding, California on October 20th 2015. I was not sure what to expect, when I started watching this meeting because I have never watched or attended a city council meeting.
A time I have failed was when I was in middle school and I wanted to join the volleyball team. I went to volleyball tryouts and showed them my best at the time. I ended up not making it on the team. It made me really sad and made me feel discouraged from trying things.

In the Movie City of God it is shot in the slums of Rio de Janeiro’s. In this city, cops never show up, combat photographers are scared to death to go there and the average age of the residents are lucky to make it into their twenties. Once one is in the slums it is very hard to get out at least a live that is. The film was depicted during the late 1960’s to the early 1980’s. Living in these conditions one may never know how long they will live or what they will do with their life.
Throughout my three years of being in St. Thomas Aquinas High School, I have participated in a few different acts of service. For every year in my high school career, I did service at my old elementary and middle school, All Saints Catholic School. During Presidents’ Day weekend, I provided help at their Church’s carnival for four days--Thursday to Sunday. All Saints Catholic School’s mission statement states “The Mission of All Saints Catholic School is to provide an atmosphere rich in the Catholic faith where each child is challenged to grow in a safe environment.
In this field observation I attended a catholic mass of a friend’s church. I was born in a Christian family and never thought that I would ever attend a Sunday catholic mass. I only have one friend who still attends a church, a catholic church. I attended this mass with my friend Paul and his family who are Pilipino. Paul was nice enough to let come to his church to be an observer and a bit of a participant.
