Founded in 1970, Urban Outfitters is a lifestyle retailer. (Forbes, n.d.) Urban sells many products ranging from clothing to home décor. (Urban Outfitters, n.d.) However, they are best known for their selection of young adult clothing. The company's head office is in Philadelphia, PA. There are 23,000 employees at UO (Forbes, n.d.). My team members and I chose Urban Outfitters. We chose this brand because of its familiarity. We are familiar with the brand and their products. Urban Outfitters describes itself as, “Urban Outfitters is a lifestyle retailer dedicated to inspiring customers through a unique combination of product, creativity, and cultural understanding.” (Urban Outfitters, n.d.) The brand's vision is about inspiring customers. They use their products to invoke creativity. Urban Outfitters is centered around meeting the customer's needs. Zip recruiter states Urban Outfitters’ mission is, “The goal for our brands is to build a strong emotional bond with the customer. Over the years, they have been embroiled in many scandals. One of the biggest ethical issues is Urban Outfitters' sustainability. Critics believe that Urban Outfitters lacks transparency when it comes to its sustainability efforts. (Maddie Dockrill, 2022) (How Sustainable Is Urban Outfitters? 2021) (Urban Outfitters - Sustainability Facts, Rating, Goals, n.d.). Although, the fast fashion retailer is taking steps to be sustainable. It is unknown how they are being sustainable. Urban only uses a small number of sustainable materials. (Urban Outfitters - Sustainability Facts, Rating, Goals, n.d.) Critics believe UO should be using more sustainable materials.
