Have you ever wondered who created the Flag of the United States ? It is said that Francis Hopkins was the first person to design the U. S flag but Betsy Ross was the first to create it. It is said that George Washington wanted a six pointed star because in the 18th century six, seven, or eight pointed stars were very common and you wouldn't see that much 5 pointed stars. There is some speculation that is was chosen to separate the United States from Europe. There also is another very common known theory that Betsy Ross wanted a 5 pointed star because it was easier to do than a six pointed star. The stars in the Flag of the United States represent “ The Heavens and the goals to which humankind aspires.” The stripes on the flag represent “The rays of light from the sun.” The thirteen stripes on the Flag of the United States represent the “ original thirteen colonies that declared independence from Britain..”
In the article "Colors of the Flag",by http://usflag.org, it is said that Sentimental writers sometimes made different meanings to the colors in the Flag of the United States. But, when the flag was first adopted in June 14, 1777, the flag's colors really had no meaning to them at all. It was only Charles Thomas who said that the white stripes on the flag show "purity and innocence", the red stripes showing "hardiness & Valour," and the blue field showing the color of the "Broad Band," shows " vigilance, perseverance & justice."
