The American flag reflects the past and present of America and also its people. The past includes the growth of a nation and the citizens who fought for it. Presently people look at the flag and see a strong country. The American flag symbolizes what the American people have pride in and makes them feel proud to be an American citizen. When looking at the history of America there is one thing that was there from the start and that is the flag. The American flag has changed along with America and with those changes, the flag not only represents America but has also influenced the country to be strong, brave, and independent. In the beginning, the county was small so the flag had a very simple design. It had only 13 stars and 13 stripes but still had the same colors of today witch are red, white, and blue. The first flag was designed by Francis Hopkinson a man from New Jersey who was a Congressman. A seamstress from Philadelphia named Betsy Ross was the one who brought Francis’s design to life and made the first American flag.
