Robbery, murder, and abuse are all horrendous actions that could occur within society without the work of law enforcement. However, within our current society, many individuals criticize the work of police departments around the world. While policemen put their lives at risk every day in order to provide communities with the feeling of safety and protection, people are constantly insulting the police force for mistakes made by a small amount of a law officers. Members of law enforcement deserve respect for the amount of hard work and danger that they endure in order to promote better communities, and you can help provide policemen with the kindness to which they are owed by participating in National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

In a society filled with violent people, law enforcement is tasked with controlling the massive amount of criminals that roam the streets. Henry Gass, a criminal justice reporter and retired naval soldier, points out that a deputy in Texas was murdered at the hands of an assailant 8 months after two New York officers were also slaughtered by an enraged opposer of police (Gass). You can see from the massacre of police officers throughout that nation that law enforcement is constantly endangering their lives’ in order to serve the citizens that they promised to protect. With violent car chases, deadly drug busts, and hostile shootouts, officers of the law are constantly involving themselves in the most menacing situations. Police allow themselves to be put in these situations because their job is to prevent criminals from achieving their negative intentions in order to promote safety within society. Within their line of work, many officers have been stabbed, shot, dismembered, disabled, crippled, and have also endured a significant amount of trauma to their brain causing mental, as well as emotional, damages that will permanently impact them for the rest of their
