Violence has been rising in the recent years though most people wouldn’t want to promote it. Gun violence and police brutality are some kinds of violence in these recent years. There are a plentiful of reasons why violence happens and some of them are conflicts and hatred. In Romeo and Juliet, violence explodes because of these reasons. Romeo, the son of Lord Montague, and Juliet, the daughter of Lord Capulet, love each other even though their families are in a great feud. This relationship brings in many conflicts throughout the entire story. In Romeo and Juliet, violence erupts between the two families, the Montagues and the Capulets, because of their hatred for each other and many conflicts. This is shown by what the characters do and what they say as well.
In the beginning of Romeo and Juliet, violence emerges from the feud between the two families and difficulties that an individual or individuals come across. For example, in 1.1.31-40, Gregory tells Sampson to pull out his sword when the Montagues arrived. Even though there is a law, they have instincts to fight. This makes me think that hatred does affect violence because if there was no feud between the Montagues and Capulets, there would be less devastating consequences. First of all, in 4.3.23-24, Juliet takes out her knife because she wants to kill herself if the potion fails to work. This makes me feel that her conflict of soon marrying Paris made her choose to make that decision. Second of all, in 5.3.49-57, Paris decides to challenge Romeo to a fight because he wants to avenge Tybalt and also prevent Romeo from doing something to the “dead” body of Juliet.
