In the year of 1873, Susan B. Anthony had been arrested for casting an illegal vote at the last presidential election. This time period was known as the Women’s Rights Movement. Many women were beginning to acknowledge that they were treated unfairly by society’s standards against them, and had began to stand up for themselves and their fellow women. At this time, women were not allowed to vote. Most were stay-at-home mothers because men did not find them suitable for most jobs the men accommodated, and society discouraged them from even getting a real education.
Before the suffrage group woman were considered weaker and less intelligent then men so they were not given as many opportunity's as they deserved. For example in the work force woman were told they were not capable because it was “a mans job.” This statement was proven wrong after Emily Howard Stowe made a suffrage group and women later on gained the vote and proved to everyone they could do anything and everything that a man could. Therefore based on the impact Emily Howard Stowe had, women most likely would not have the same voting rights we do as of today if she did not make the suffrage group.

The Suffragists were not a vital factor in women gaining the vote as on one hand, their peaceful methods showed they were capable and deserved the right to vote; but on the other hand, they did not progress in their campaign and were too easily ignored by the government. The Suffragettes were also a minor factor in women getting the vote as even though their violent tactics gained their cause lots of publicity, they were seen as reckless and irresponsible to the government and by 1914 their campaign had died out. Despite the fact that the Suffragists and the Suffragettes has been continuously fighting for the vote, these two factors were not crucial factory that help women get the vote as neither suffrage movement achieved what they had aimed for by 1914. The american women 's efforts to win the voting rights were significantly influenced by both the Civil War and World War I. The american women started an organized movement to gain rights to vote, it started in the 1860s. In World War I the choice was the same, although the context and the response were different. Women 's suffrage made a change in the society’s lives. Two women organized a convention which declared a basic right for women.
For nearly one hundred and fifty years, The United States of America claimed to be made “By the people, for the People” but denied the most basic rights to half of the population. Women were seen by American society as second-class citizens, existing exclusively to assist others and be subservient to men. Many women during this time did not agree on this topic and choose to fight back against the patriarchy. Women like this just wanted to have the same respect as any other man in society. The women who fought back were largely associated with the National Women Suffrage Association.
Kitty’s article “ Equality, Dignity and Disability” was an informative article in regards to advocating for people with disabilities. Kitty advocates for people with disabilities and feels that they should be treated with dignity and equality. I feel the information that was proved in the article was informative and how the dignity of a person with disabilities are being disregarded, to be sad. Finally, all their hard work paid off in 1919 when the 19th amendment was passed. The 19th amendment states that all genders have the right to vote, but it took another 15 years for black women to gain the right to vote and another 30 for Asian American women. This provided a big step for the US proving that Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton's work did not go to waste. Some may think the only women who assisted in giving women the right to vote were big names like Susan B. Anthony, Alice Paul, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone, and Ida B. Wells but in reality, it was a “team effort” made by a big group of people who participated in the protest and petitions.
