An Advertisement is “any public notice, as a printed display in a newspaper, short film on television, announcement on radio, etc, designed to sell goods ,or publicize an event” as defined by dictionary.com. In our world advertisement are used by people, companies, and organizations to get their point or idea across. The points or ideas of these advertisements may vary depending on who the target audience is or what purpose is the ad is used for. Advertisement companies use different persuasive strategies such as ethos, pathos and logos to persuade its target audience. In the case of this specific advertisement we know that it came from the NRA. The NRA is a nonprofit association that deals with gun rights and gun safety. The NRA is known for wanting armed security in schools so that they can provide a safer environment for the students. That’s where we get the purpose of this advertisement. This advertisement is used to gather the parents (target audience) who want to encourage the use of “armed security in our schools” as shown in the ads text. In the advertisement there is a building in the very back with no name almost as if it is abandoned and lifeless. Knowing what this ad is about we can concur that the building is a school. In the front of the school there is a flag. This flag is the only part of the actual image that has color. This is supposed to symbolize all of the meanings behind the American flag and how we are supposed to feel safe where we are. Now in the foreground of the image we see the viewpoint of it. Unlike a regular image this wasn’t taken by somebody standing up. This specific image is taken from the floor and we can see this by how the grass is taking most of the front of the picture.
