Given that I was born and raised in Puerto Rico by two Haitian parents, I’ve always had a strong concern for the poor living conditions in developing countries. For this reason, I am deeply passionate for international development focused on education, human rights and health. I consider working with the Peace Corps one of the highest possible callings. My wonderful years in academic philosophy studying Ethics and Foreign Languages have honed my ability to communicate well and sharpened my research skills. Yet, my professional goals in international affairs and development require a broad, multidisciplinary approach to program analysis, research and theory.
I wish to volunteer for the Texas Heath Dallas because I would like to gain experience and knowledge about careers in medicine as well as give back to the community. Volunteering in hospitals helps you learn about health care and how the hospital experience is different for social classes. You will see patients at their highest and lowest extremes of emotion and be able to assist them with the rudimentary yet crucial tasks. I would like to gain experience with working with others especially since everyone is unique with their own personalities and experiences. My future goal is to become a cardiologist, however, not just a cardiologist.
I was able to train the students in there for them to get better. Even walking around, I seem to always find people in need of help and love being able to help people in need. Every time I had extra food, I would always give it to the homeless because I know that it would be of much better use in their hands than in mine. For my Freshman year, I participated in a club named Heart in Motion. What that club did was volunteer at different places to help at events like acting as a security guard or give food and water for runners at marathons.
Doctor of Social Work Program Application Personal Statement Ashley Newberry LCSW, LISW As I child, I was introduced to the human service field in a unique way. For as long as I can remember, my mother has had a human service profession and provided me with daily examples of how to help others. One of my earliest memories is riding out a hurricane while we stayed in the adult group home where my mother worked, assisting with safety measures for residents and providing comfort to her community. My mother worked in multiple residential programs throughout my life, specializing her work with individuals with developmental and physical disabilities.
I applied to volunteer because I knew that I was going to need the experience in the future. Even at 13 I was sure that I enjoyed the medical field and wanted to pursue it as a career. The process was made easier due to my connections in the hospital; my mother was the head nurse of the Women’s Health clinic, and the head of the Red Cross office was a friend of ours. I loved every second of volunteering and spent at least three eight-hour days there every week for the entire summer from 2012 to 2014. At the end of each summer I had logged at least 100 volunteer hours and been given the opportunity to make connections in the hospital as well as view procedures in various
As a single mother who has confronted poverty, I am committed to reforming community intervention and advocacy practices. I have a particular interest in improving the accessibility and funding of offering all services under one umbrella within orphanages’. As a result of my own experiences, I am familiar with the despair and frustration endemic to individuals struggling to survive. I am convinced that increasing individuals' access to services that are representative of a community showing family resemblance can make the difference between despondency and hope. I am applying for my masters in social work so that I can pursue my life-mission: to establish successful orphanages’ that present a family resemblance with umbrella services across
My reasons for wanting to volunteer at Mount Sanai hospital will be great opportunity for me to get an experience in a hospital settings. As I get closer to college It's important for me to find out what will be my major and what career option would make me the happiest. Although I am not specifically sure about the college major yet, I always had my heart set on the medical field, whether my choice will be dental care, pediatric care or Intensive care unit I am sure that I will enjoy my position. I spend a lot of my time volunteering in different organizations and facilities to get a sense of what group of people I like to work with and what type of responsibilities I will exceed in. Unlike my other volunteering facilities Mount Sinai will
My Volunteering Experience at St. Mary Medical Center It wasn’t for the volunteer hours needed for school or the need to do something. It was all about giving back to the community for me. I was born in India and I’ve seen the kind of condition people suffer to get through the day. Since then it has been my goal to make others smile, and just help them in any way possible.
Throughout my academic, professional, and personal experiences, I have been motivated to improve social welfare conditions for under resourced communities and addressing the effects of social change on the community. The opportunity to work on the Understanding value co-creation in public services for transforming European public administrations (CoVal) project at the University of Edinburgh, would further both my academic and personal endeavors in research and practical solutions for the public and non-profit sector. Before starting my PhD, I worked in the social care sector with youth and families as a Detroit-area youth counsellor, social work and program manager of social services for children and youth with disabilities. This allowed
I feel the employment opportunity and requirements fits my work experience, skills, and credentials. Hence, I will make a positive contribution to the institution and the liaison position while gratifying my potential. I have been doing case management for three years partnering with individuals and groups in addressing their issues. As a social worker I am meticulous in my work and knows the importance of working both individually and in groups, in addition to meeting deadlines to help the individuals efficiently address their issues. I have completed biopsychosocial assessments, implement interventions, and partnered with individuals in completing paperwork that assist them with receiving services to address their issues.
There is no other field that both challenges and inspires me to succeed and grow professionally than the field of social work. I look to not only progress further in my studies, but utilize this in my pursuit of helping others. Through my work and volunteer experiences as well as my academic studies, I possess the necessary skills and knowledge needed to excel in the MSW program. I hold extensive experience in working with a diverse population as well as implementing culturally appropriate resources and services. During my time working with domestic violence victims, I worked closely with individuals of all backgrounds.
What sparked my interest in social work Going through as much trauma as I did, I had no hope, my earliest suicidal thought I can remember was when I was old 6 years old. There was abuse daily for all of my siblings rather it was physical or mental by my mother. Unfortunately, I was the sibling who also was sexually abused by cousins and my mother's boyfriend. Growing up I never thought I’d get out of the “hood”.
I believe that the mission of a student ambassador is to promote the vision, growth and quality of University of Maryland, by optimizing the experience of current students, prospective students and special guests. I would like to be a student ambassador primarily because I want to get more involved with the university; not to mention the positive impact it will have on my CV. I would also gain experience in public speaking, building friendships with fellow ambassadors and develop my leadership skills. Furthermore, this offers a responsibility that can be both challenging and extremely rewarding.
The situation at the homes of the children also varies – some come from orphanages and others from loving families who accompany them to the hospital. Why is helping other people my passion? It is hard to explain, but essentially I want to be useful to the society, especially to the children who are in desperate need of attention. Coming back home from a long day at the hospital with plenty of emotions, thoughts and plans for the future feels incredible. Due to that, I wonder – do I give more or do I receive more by being a volunteer?
An article from Richmond Vale Academy states, “Volunteering is an excellent way to explore other fields you may be interested in. Not only provides you with valuable experiences that can make you more competitive in your new work field” (“12 Benefits of Volunteering that will change your life!”). While deciding on career paths, one may be involved in activities that provide an overall idea on what he or she may choose to spend the rest of their life doing. Richmond Vale again states, “Volunteering gives you a good insight on what working will be like” (“12 Benefits of Volunteering that will change your life!”). Volunteering allows people who are deciding on careers to experience how life may be, working that specific job.
