Have you ever heard of the debate on whether or not the federal government should give parents vouchers for private school tuition? Vouchers allow parents to use public funds to pay for some of their child’s private school tuition or all of it. Most of the time, state governments give people vouchers. Vouchers take away money that could be given to public schools and used for resources and funding. The federal government should not be giving parents vouchers for private school tuition. Vouchers do not have a big impact on student academic performance. If students are offered a voucher, then they won’t necessarily put in more effort to get good grades. A study was done on it. The study shows that over four years, there wasn’t a big difference of grades between people that were offered a voucher and people that weren’t offered a voucher. Actually, the people that were given a voucher were more likely to not show up for class and be absent. (Americans United for Separation of Church and State, 1) This proves that vouchers don’t have much of an impact on student academic performance. It proves this because grades are the same for people with and without vouchers.
Vouchers harm our failing public school system even more than they already are. Private schools don’t have enough seats for everyone. That money should go to public schools.

They might argue this because in their eyes, vouchers allow every kid the right to a better education. However, people that would argue that are wrong. Vouchers don’t always allow every kid to have the right to have a better education. If a deaf kid is offered a voucher for private school tuition, then there is no guarantee that there will be a sign-language interpreter at that specific private school. There might not be an interpreter because private schools don’t have to follow the Americans with Disabilities
