As long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be a nurse, and I’m proud to say I’m graduating from Washington State University College of Nursing with my bachelors of science in nursing. I remember how stressed I was before nursing school and how bad I wanted to be in the program. When I got a letter in the mail saying I got an interview, I was ecstatic because I knew that was the hard part. Walking out of the interview I had a feeling that I was in, and when I got my acceptance letter it was the best news ever. I can honestly say these past two years of my life in nursing school have been the hardest, most stressful, but most rewarding years of my life. Every time I feel I’m not ready or prepared I prove myself wrong by demonstrating adequate knowledge and skills which are necessary to succeed as a nurse. As I reflect on my education I’ve come to conclusion that Washington State University College of Nursing has prepared me to go out and conquer the world of nursing. WSU has educated me in all aspects of nursing and all the learning goals have been met. I feel WSU has provided me the ability to solve problems in a variety of ways while utilizing our own minds and skills. When a problem arises I automatically start to think of different ways to solve the problem. In practicum, there was a woman who had expressive aphasia and was unable to speak. I thought it would be a good idea to print the alphabet out and have her point to letters to spell out words. This method worked and healthcare providers and her husband are now able to better communicate with her. WSU nursing school has taught me to think outside the box and to use all my resources to solve problems. I feel confident when problems arise that I can utilize my resources and mind to come up with an idea to help the
