While in Kansas City, Disney became good friends with 18-year-old Ubbe Iwerks, an artist and engineering genius. Walt started working for Kansas City Ad Company. Walt became interested in moving animation and checked out some books on it. With his brother, Roy Disney, he made a studio in a garage. With Ub (Ubbe Iwerks) Walt searched to find smoother animation. With this information, Walt made his own film and showed it to the Newman Theater Company. The manager approved it, and Walt became a celebrity in Kansas City. Soon Walt had his own type of making animations, the "Disney Touch". His first animation demonstrating the "Disney Touch" was Little Red Riding Hood. With Ub, Walt decided to start their own animation company- Laugh-O-Gram Films …show more content…

In that time Walt opened Walt Disney Studios. While working at the company he fell in love with Lillian Bounds, an artist at the studio, and married on July 13, 1933. They had two children Diane born in 1933 and Sharon born in 1936. Walt reunited the "team" (Walt, Roy, and Ub). Walt had a very successful cartoon character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. When it came out on November 18, 1928 it was considered Mickey's Birthday. At Disney Studios Walt wanted the best animations possible so he split his artists into teams and did pencil-tests, also known as pencil testing. Walt wanted his artist to have the best education possible as well so he also bought art courses for his artists. Many of the Studios funds came from allowing other compainies to use Mickey Mouse in ads. Soon Walt decided to start doing shorts as a series. One popular short of the time was The Three Little Pigs 1933, it was VERY ENTERTAINING. During the time of the Great Depression Walt put everything on the line, an estimated $1,499,000 into the Snow White project. Luckly, Snow White was a HUGE success at it's premere in 1939. Walt was presented a special award from Shirley Temple herself. With the funds from Snow White Walt decied to upgrade the studios. Some other popular movies of the time were Fantasia in 1940, Pinocchio 1940, and Bambi in 1942.
