While in Kansas City, Disney became good friends with 18-year-old Ubbe Iwerks, an artist and engineering genius. Walt started working for Kansas City Ad Company. Walt became interested in moving animation and checked out some books on it. With his brother, Roy Disney, he made a studio in a garage. With Ub (Ubbe Iwerks) Walt searched to find smoother animation. With this information, Walt made his own film and showed it to the Newman Theater Company. The manager approved it, and Walt became a celebrity in Kansas City. Soon Walt had his own type of making animations, the "Disney Touch". When it came out on November 18, 1928 it was considered Mickey's Birthday. At Disney Studios Walt wanted the best animations possible so he split his artists into teams and did pencil-tests, also known as pencil testing. Walt wanted his artist to have the best education possible as well so he also bought art courses for his artists.
