People are surrounded by mass media such as movies or TV shows, but they watch it without the awareness of ideological meaning in it. Ideology is spread by powerful people in the society throughout normal activity such as the family, school, and mass media (Brock 38). This influences people to think that what they believe is "common sense" which is actually constructed by ideology (Brock 38). According to Karl Marx, this constructed ideological idea is called false consciousness (Brock 38). During the World War II, the United States’s government used mass media to spread propaganda which forms stereotypical images of an enemy and to increase American citizen's patriotism (Yoshimoto 19). The famous Disney movie, Der Fuehrer's Face, released in 1942, contained strong ideology scenes in order to demonize the enemy and influence American citizens to join the war (Jordan). …show more content…

They requested Walt Disney to make propaganda cartoons (Yoshimoto 65). Der Fuehrer's Face is a good example of American propaganda made by Disney. It shows the different lifestyle in communism and capitalism and contrasts their ideology. Der Fuehrer's Face is about Donald Duck who follows a dictator’s strict rule under a "terrible" communist environment (Dir. King). In this movie, Disney illustrated Axis power such as Nazi and Japan in an ironic way. Donald Duck looks like a patriot by saying "Heil Hitler" but he looks exhausted of communism (Dir. King). Disney tried to demonize Axis's countries by exposing their communist ideology. Thus the American government succeeds to introduce the idea that it was necessary for American citizens to fight with Axis's countries because they need to help these countries from an insane leader (Yoshimoto
