Imperialism is extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force. For three hundred years Europe traded slaves, gold, and ivory with Africa but they never deeply traveled into the continent. In the 1800s European explores finally wanted to colonize Africa. Was it justified for them to colonize Africa? No, even though Europeans modernized Africa the idea of Imperialism was unjust.
Some advantages to imperialism was that the Europeans brought over their new technology. When the Europeans brought over their technology, it helped modernize Africa which then benefited the country in many ways. The advancements in the technological industry of Africa boomed after the imperialism. It provoked new working tools, new ideas on housing and living, and new ideas for weapons. However, the meaning of respect and kindness to one another is more important than technological advancements. …show more content…

The Europeans forced the Africans to work with very little or no benefits. As a matter of fact in the Background Essay from the DBQ Packet, it states, “Over the next twenty years Leopold's managers proceeded to kill, through forced labor, horrible mistreatment, and the introduction of disease, as many as 10,000,000 people.” They forced the Africans to work for them because they believed that they weren't as important as the Europeans. You shouldn't assume someone is less important than you just because they aren't the same as you. If someone needs to have people help them work then they should be rewarded with nice things instead of rewarded with death, disease, or horrible mistreatment.
