The Treaty of Versailles was meant to make the Great War “the war to end all wars”. Although many contributors on this treaty considered it to be successful, the treaty of Versailles was found to be rather unfair than reasonable. On Article 231 of the Treaty (June 28,1919), Germany was required to accept full responsibility of the outbreak of WW1. This article caused massive disagreements in Germany in which they were accused of being solely responsible for the outbreak of the war. While others agreed with Germany, claiming that the treaty was harsh, others believed that Germany should accept the full responsibilities placed upon them. To this day, this question remains controversial, Was Germany solely to blame for the outbreak of WW1?

Nationalism is the belief that a person’s country is better than others, imperialism is the desire of a bigger country to conquer a smaller country, militarism is the attempt to build a strong army and navy and an alliance is a union based off of formal agreements between two or more nations. In the 18th and 19th century European countries were in search of materials which resulted in them conquering countries such as Africa and Asia. Imperialism of all European states had poisoned all international relations (document 4). Nationalism caused massive pride in some countries which caused them to conquer one another, leading to more issues and some European countries even had secret alliances.
