Grant served at a difficult time in the country’s history. He was known as the president who carried all the burdens of all the people in the country. Ulysses S. Grant was an effective president due to his willingness to change the country for the better, bravery during war, and his presidency. Ulysses S. Grant had the reputation for saving the American Union Army from defeat (“Britannica”). This affected him because people wanted him as president because he saved the Union Army from losing a battle. Kuhl 2 As a result in 1868 he won his first nomination medal (“Britannica”). This happened because he was nominated for his formality during the war. This affected the country by seeing what their president can do for their country. This exemplifies how Ulysses S. Grant’s bravery during the war paid off. Ulysses S. Grant had a presidency that greatly affected our country. He provided settlement to American claims against Great Britain (“Britannica"). This helped families find settlement in newer areas. He did this so the population would get higher. He also negotiated a canal system from the Pacific to the Atlantic (“Britannica”). This would make traveling easier and faster.
