Grant served at a difficult time in the country’s history. He was known as the president who carried all the burdens of all the people in the country. Ulysses S. Grant was an effective president due to his willingness to change the country for the better, bravery during war, and his presidency. Ulysses S. Grant had the reputation for saving the American Union Army from defeat (“Britannica”). This affected him because people wanted him as president because he saved the Union Army from losing a battle.
