Due to the artificial information that is available through the World Wide Web, it is essential that you evaluate and assess the quality of the information provided. One tool that is helpful to segregate this information is a process called a Web Evaluation Criteria. This process is categorized into four categories, which is Accuracy, Authority, Objectivity and Currency. I conducted a search on the topic of Privacy and Security on the Internet. I used search engines such as MSN, Bing and Google and compared it with information provided through an Academic Search database. Looking at the web search from MSN, the article was written and updated by students from Princeton University. The individuals were unnamed and no contact information was provided. However, the information from the Academic Search Premier provided a more detail result. The article provided names of the authors and contact information. An abstract was also provided stating a brief summary of the article. Comparing this information to the web criteria, the accuracy of this article was proven to be true. Now, let’s take a look at verifying the Authority of the article. Authority answer questions such as, is the author credentials reputable? Is the information cited or is there a reference list provided?
