“The Power of Strength Training” is an article written by Mandy Oaklander published in the Times magazine. Through this article Oaklander reveals the benefits of strength training especially for women. According to Oaklander women tend to stay away from strength training because of the misconception of becoming too muscular. A few of the benefit of strength training, she mentions is that it reduces the risk of Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Oaklander gives examples of exercises that can be done anywhere without a gym membership or weights.

Denzel Washington won a Best Actor award in 2002, from starring in this movie. “Training Day” is a crime film/thriller. Police drama, that involves a veteran officer, who is now a detective, taking a rookie, a former security guard, on his first day with the Los Angeles Police Department narcotics unit. In the movie “Training Day,” Alonzo Harris and Jake Hoyt are the two main characters’ names.

1.) I choose to do graph how many of my workouts were done with a partner, group, or solo. I choose to graph this to encourage me to have more variety in my workouts. Since I have a basketball class, it is very easy to count that in as my work out for the week but I should really go to the Kaplan Center more or try new ways to exercise.

It could be that you suffered an injury and had to stay out of the workout circuit for a while. Or you just had a period of "exercise de-motivation" that extended to days, weeks and then months. And here you are now, wondering what happened to the shapely figure you just had months ago. Now, all the curves you have are in the wrong places and your feet seem to weigh like lead. Unless you want to die a premature death caused by high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease, you need to get your butt moving so you can get yourself to exercise again.
Weightlifting is a sport with a rich history that dates back to ancient civilizations such as Greece. According to the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), "weightlifting was one of the events in the ancient Olympic Games in Greece, with the earliest recorded weightlifting event dating back to 776 BC" (IWF, n.d.). The athletes at the ancient Olympics would lift heavy stones, a practice that was seen as a symbol of strength and power. Philostratus, a Greek author from the 3rd century AD, described the weightlifting competitions at the ancient Olympics in his book Gymnastics: "The victors [in weightlifting] are not those who lift the heaviest weights, but those who lift them with the most grace and the greatest ease" (Philostratus, n.d.).
Most of the people in the gym had their headphones in and were inside of their own world, oblivious to what was going on in all of the surrounding areas. The majority of the conversations that were going on were most often strictly gym based questions. I heard a few questions that were not just gym based but for the most part I was hearing questions about the weight amounts people should use, or questions of people asking another person to put more weight onto their machines and such things. One specific conversation I heard was two guys talking about the pre-workout and post-workout they drink, the guys were discussing their favorites and why they were their favorites. My favorite part of the conversation was at the end when they both said they

“The two most important things to do for self-defense are not to take a martial arts class or get a gun, but to think like the opposition and know where you 're most at risk.” (Barry Eisler) The strategies on how to think like the opposition in case of an attack are essential for students to learn at the high school level. Self-defense classes will be an effective way to teach students the skills, strategies, and knowledge needed so they can properly defend themselves and others in case of an attack. Doing this through high schools allow students to maintain their busy schedules as well as teaching them in a low risk and low-cost environment where they feel comfortable to express concerns and ask questions as they learn.
Without balance it is almost impossible to defend yourself in a fight. Gaining better control of your body will help you be more prepared to protect yourself when the occasion demands. It improves your physical
